Will repellents get a bird out of the attic? (none work well)
Your home is supposed to be your castle but, sadly, there can be some instances where the beauty and tranquility of your home can be ruined. When you have leaks in the pipes this can lead to mold and mildew build up which can cause long term health risks to you and your family, as well as permanently damage your home. If you have an insect infestation, especially with roaches, this can really ruin the enjoyment of your home. It honestly does not take a whole lot to really take away from how much you should be able to enjoy your home.
Another way that your home can be turned into a house of horrors is if birds have taken over your attic. They will leave their waste everywhere as they swoop around, and that waste can carry a large number of parasites and diseases in it. This can quickly ruin your home and make it so that it is not safe to live in anymore.
On top of the health risks that they present, you also have the challenges of them making a big mess in your attic. Once you get rid of them you have a lot of work to do to clean up what they have destroyed. If you have been storing memorabilia in there, like clothes, blankets, books, or magazines, you can be sure that the birds have used them to make a nest out of. These things may have to be thrown out now, and insulation may be destroyed as well. It can be a real nightmare.
The first problem before you start talking about cleanup is how to get rid of the birds in the first place. You are not going to be able to do anything to repair the damage that they have created unless you can get them out of your home but that may not be an easy task at all. Getting rid of the birds is going to take some real work. You are going to have to find some innovative ways or some proven ways to get them to leave your home and never return.
Many look for methods that they see on the internet to see if those solutions will work for them. They turn to such things as one-way funnels and traps, which have had great success in getting rid of the birds. These ideas can work that is for sure. You could hire a professional to come out and handle your problem. There are many great organizations that can do the job, but they can also be a bit expensive. You may not be able to afford this option and so you have to keep searching for some other option.
There are those who are looking for the much more permanent option. They would think that such things as poisons would be a really good option, but the truth is that this is a really bad alternative. Think about what killing off all of these birds will do. You may have dozens, if not hundreds of dead bird carcasses in your attic. Think about all the disease that would be spread by all these dead birds. Plus, do you really want to be cleaning up all those dead birds on top of having to clean up the mess that they made. This is clearly not a great option, but that is up to you if you want to spend that kind of time. Just make sure you protect your respiratory and skin.
An option that is gaining a lot of hype is to use repellants to get rid of these creatures. The idea is that you would use these repellants and they would scare the birds out of your attic. There are several companies that have created commercial brands and attest to the fact that their product really works. The question is if they are right?
Repellants seem like a great idea. There are certain compounds that birds do not like the smell or taste of, and so if you put this in your attic you will get rid of the birds. They will simply want to get out of the attic. That sounds great, but the reality is that they do not work very well.
There have been lots of tests that have been done to try this out and most often the results have not been very positive. The repellants do not usually have much of effect and become a rather large waste of your money to buy them.
Even the homemade ones are not that good. There are many recipes that you can find on the internet that will show you how to make homemade repellants that they swear works well, but the reality is that they do not have much effect at all. They are a waste of your time and money.
The one exception to this is when you use a lot of the repellant. If you put an excessive amount in your attic, then you can have some success in getting these animals out of your home. The question is if you want to use this amount of the repellant. The fact is that the more that you use the more you will notice it. you will soon have a lot of the repellant in your home to the point that it will repel you from wanting to come home. That just will not do.
